Life in the 906: Some summer “tourists” are arriving in gaggles and leaving their mark
This is the time of the year when visitors from far & wide descend upon our lovely home, and while I’ve been out & about the past few weeks I’ve noticed that there’s a particular group that seems to be here in bigger numbers than ever before.
Insights: Marquette celebrates 45 years with sister city Higashiomi, Japan July 30 – Aug. 6
Ambassadors from Higashiomi, Japan will make the trip to Marquette to celebrate the cities’ 45th anniversary as sister cities. The visitors will arrive on Tuesday, July 30 at the Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport at 6:30 p.m., where the community is welcome to meet and greet them. The group will be making stops with Marquette city leaders as well as visiting some of Marquette’s museums.

Girls only technology camp at NMU
Marquette, Mich. (WZMQ) – A summer day camp for girls, focused on technology and robotic programming is taking place this week at Northern Michigan University. Camp Infinity is a series of week long sessions that introduce girls in grades 5th through 8th to the world of computer programming and internet technology through hands on activities. This year Camp Infinity will be held at 10 colleges across the state, including the first time in the UP. Camp Director Christina King says the girls only approach allows for greater learning.
