Upstate NY man arrested after falling through ceiling while hiding from police
An Upstate New York man has been arrested after falling through a ceiling while hiding from police. WETM reports police officers were called to an apartment building in Elmira, N.Y., on Friday night for a report of a wanted person, George Wilson. The Elmira Police Department said officers surrounded the building and tried to make contact with Wilson, who went into hiding.
Mansfield District Court
The following individuals are scheduled to appear in Manssfield District Court, judge Tiffany Cummings presiding. Heather Marie Pequignot, 30, of Covington has been charged with DUI-BAC .08-.10%, DUI-unsafe driving, disregard traffic lane and careless driving. On March 10 officers were traveling on North Williamson Rd., Covington Township when they observed a black Chevy Traverse traveling over the white and yellow lines several times. During a traffic stop Pequignot showed signs of impairment and told officers she had had a couple of drinks. She was taken to PSP Mansfield where a breath test showed a BAC of .094. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 10.
Compost Facility Extended Hours
The Chemung County Compost Facility, located at 715 Blostein Blvd. in the Village of Horseheads, will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the remainder of the week (July 17th, 18th, and 19th) and from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday (July 20th). The extended hours are being offered to assist residents who experienced storm damage and need to dispose of tree limb debris.

Wellsboro District Court
The following individuals are scheduled to appear in Wellsboro District Court, judge Robert Repard presiding. Jennifer Sara Huff, 44, of Trout Run has been charged with possession of marijuana-small amount personal use and possession-drug paraphernalia. On April 24 an officer was patrolling at Hills Creek State Park when he approached a parked car with Huff inside. The officer smelled marijuana and Huff relinquished marijuana and paraphernalia. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16.

The following individuals are scheduled to appear in Elkland District Court, judge James Edgcomb presiding. Dylan James VanSickle, 32, of Sabinsville was charged by Westfield Borough Police with unsworn falsification and violation of the firearms act-sale/transfer. VanSickle allegedly attempted to purchase a firearm. VanSickle answered “No” to Question 21 on Nov. 13, 2023 and the purchase was denied.
Work progressing on Pizza Hut building in Corning, a 'wonderful' addition to Northside
Construction crews are busy working to update and reopen the old Pizza Hut building on Corning’s northside. The East Pulteney Street site was one of 17 Pizza Hut restaurants that closed in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Other closures included locations in Elmira, Hornell and Bath. Pizza Hut returned to Elmira in November 2022 with a delivery and takeout-only location, and now, it's poised for a comeback in Steuben County.
Woman seriously injured in Town of Campbell crash, hospitalized: New York State Police:
One person was seriously injured Sunday morning in a one-vehicle crash in the Town of Campbell. A preliminary investigation indicated a 2009 Subaru was traveling west on Woodcock Road when it exited the roadway on the north shoulder, overturned and struck a tree, according to New York State Police at Painted Post.

Elmira man arrested for attempted murder
The Elmira Police Department arrested a 33-year-old Elmira man for attempted murder following an incident last week. According to police, John Havens was charged with attempted murder in the second degree, a Class B felony, after they found a 33-year-old man with stab wounds to his neck on the 400 block of Clinton Street on Thursday.
