John W. Jones Museum Gets Federal Grant for Expansion
ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- An Elmira museum is getting federal funding to help with its expansion. The John W. Jones Museum at 1248 Davis Street Elmira has been awarded $45,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The museum preserves the legacy of John W. Jones, who escaped slavery in Virginia the 1840's, and later settled in Elmira. Jones was a key agent on the underground railroad, helping 860 former enslaved people escape to freedom.

One regional airport in Tioga County makes more sense. Can someone explain why Broome County continues to have an airport that is hardly used. Financially it would make more sense to have a larger airport in Tioga County that serves Binghamton, Ithaca and Elmira. Millions are spent every year on airports that are difficult to sustain. In the era of IBM, Link, and other companies that no longer provide employment opportunities, it made sense for Binghamton to have its own airport.
Fair Friday Ahead
The fair skies continue on Friday with temperatures in the upper-70s and lower-80s. Mostly clear skies overnight will allow lows to drop back into the mid-50s. Patchy fog will be possible after midnight. The dry weather sticks around into the weekend with highs in the mid-80s. Partly sunny skies are expected both days. Monday will start off the week dry with fair skies. Clouds increase Tuesday as our next system moves in. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will start Tuesday and continue through Thursday. Temperatures during this time will be in the 80s under mostly cloudy skies.

Former Manos Diner Site Could Become Dollar General
ELMIRA HEIGHTS, NY (WENY) -- A former diner could soon be torn down to make way for a brand new Dollar General in Elmira Heights. The former Manos Diner is on the agenda for the Chemung County Planning Board on July 25th. A Pennsylvania-based developer is requesting site plan approval to demolish the diner and parking lot at 2048 Pennsylvania Avenue. They would then build a 12,000 square foot Dollar General store.

Bath Police cite concerns with bail reform after multiple arrests of local woman
Bath Police are highlighting issues with current bail reform policies after arresting Courtney Roche three times in a span of three days. Roche’s alleged criminal activities began on July 9 when she unlawfully entered a restricted area of the Bath Municipal Building and was caught stealing credit cards. The following day, she reportedly pulled a fire alarm at the Quality Inn on West Morris Street. On July 11, Roche was arrested again for pulling another fire alarm, this time at the Budget Inn on West Morris Street.
