NELSONVILLE — Temperatures have been on the rise, making many Athens County residents miserable as of late.

But in Nelsonville, there is an oasis where visitors can cool off and relax. Many individuals and families find the Nelsonville Aquatic Center a perfect refuge on these scorching days. Some people even visit this paradise on a daily basis.

Located at 40 W. Canal St., the center is open from noon-6 p.m. daily during the summer. It offers

a diving well with diving board, tot pool and water slide. Other amenities include family restrooms and a concession stand.

The daily entry fee is $5 for people ages 4 and up, while children ages 3 and under are admitted for free.

Season passes are available for in-town and out-of-town residents. Rates vary. Active-duty service members, veterans and first-responders, as well as Nelsonville residents ages 65 or older, can get season passes for free with appropriate ID.

For in-town rates, must have Nelsonville address or school ID as shown on water bill or tax return. All Nelsonville-York students receive in-town rates with school ID.

Swim lessons and water aerobics are available.
