    Need a tasty bite on the go? Here are 6 New Bedford area grab-and-go spots to try

    NEW BEDFORD -- As summertime arrives and the weather gets warmer, there's no better way to spend a lunch break than enjoying a quick outdoor meal during the work day.

    But with busy schedules and limited time, it can be a challenge to find a restaurant that offers delicious and convenient grab-and-go options that give you that restaurant taste without having to wait too long or are forced to eat it within its four walls.

    Fortunately, the downtown area of New Bedford has a variety of spots that are ideal for satisfying those hearty meal cravings in a short amount of time.

    Here are six must-try restaurants in the New Bedford downtown area that are perfect for a quick and satisfying meal on the go:

    New Beige

    Located at 39 Union St., the newest grab-and-go hybrid restaurant is the first of its kind of in the downtown area. With a full bar and dining room area equipped with a menu, the other half of the space is a retail area for that quick in-and-out bite.

    The grab-and-go menu includes hot coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, Americanos, and ready-to-go foods such as fruit salad and a salad bar. For quick bites, they have options like ham and Swiss empanadas, jalapeno bacon empanadas and chicken piri-piri and mongolian beef skewers.

    Destination Soups

    Located at 149 Union St., Destination Soups has been a staple in the downtown area since 2008. With a constantly changing menu of soups and sandwiches, each week you'll always find something new to try. Currently, the menu includes a chicken caesar wrap with grilled chicken, creamy dressing, and daily soups include chicken vegetable and creamy tomato basil.

    There are also several grilled cheese options such as the "Green Monster" grilled cheese with lemony mixed greens or a grilled cheese pizza stuffed with salami and Italian seasoning. And for a touch of spice, the El Guapo grilled cheese, filled with spicy black beans, tomato, and avocado. Guests care also order the scrumptious homemade mac & cheese as a side.

    Ground Floor Coffee

    Located at 61 Merrills Wharf, just recently celebrating its one year anniversary, Ground Floor Coffee has become a delicious and convenient grab-and-go option for breakfast, snack, lunch and dessert needs. With a variety of options available, it's the perfect solution for those busy mornings or quick lunches on the go.

    Enjoy popular bagels served with butter, jam or cream cheese in flavors like Asiago, everything, cinnamon and plain with unique cream cheese flavors like bacon-scallion. If bagels aren't your thing, they also offer mouth-watering daily baked muffins in flavors like blueberry, orange-cranberry and chocolate chip.

    There's also options like butter and chocolate croissants and raspberry danish, or linguica cheese rolls.

    No Problemo

    Since opening its spot in 2002, located at 813 Purchase St., No Problemo's grab-and-go offering boasts a delectable menu of unique and affordable Mexican food that has been luring in customers and earning them consecutive Best Eats titles in the South Coast area.

    Their attention to freshness sets them apart from other restaurants, and their hearty portions are sure to leave customers feeling satisfied. Each burrito, starting with a 12" steamed flour tortilla, comes filled with rice, beans, Monterey Jack cheese, salsa and sour cream. For a lighter option, customers can try the burrito bowl.

    Other options include quesadillas, tacos, street tacos, salads and torta sandwiches, all served with a side of freshly made tortilla chips. No Problemo also offers a variety of sides and extras, from chips and salsa to avocado and plantains.

    Dough Company

    Referred to also as simply DoCo, this grab-and-go spot is located in Kilburn Mill at 127 W Rodney French Blvd. Owners Jillian and Jason Cotter have been keeping their restaurant fresh with not only a comfortable seating area and bar, but a perfect way for people to come and grab food on their way to exploring the rest of the mill or to enjoy on the South End's Harbor Walk.

    With convenient items for breakfast, lunch and all day snacking. Customers can enjoy a classic egg sandwich customized with their choice of breakfast meat and bread or the DoCo Original Muffnut, a heavenly combination of a donut and muffin.

    Dough Company also offers a selection of breads including the classic enriched white loaf and the whole Japanese milk loaf as well as English muffins and bagels, both available as is or toasted with various toppings such as plain or herb cream cheese. They also have sandwiches and toasts, including their signature classic egg sandwich or for meat lovers - the Prosciutto sandwich, topped with nut-free basil pesto and whipped truffle ricotta. And the signature Mozambique potatoes are also one to definitely try.

    The Whale Tail

    Located at 52 Fisherman’s Wharf Pier 3, the Whale’s Tail is best known for its fried seafood dishes that are cooked to perfection. Their menu reflects classic New England favorites such as clam chowder, clam cakes, and fish and chips. But they also offer a twist on traditional dishes, such as a fried clam strip roll, calamari with hot cherry peppers and a tuna poke with a pineapple-ginger-soy dressing.

    For seafood lovers, signature dishes include fried clams, whole belly clams, scallops, and fried shrimp. And if you’re not a fan of seafood, they also have options for land-lovers, like chicken tenders and burgers.
