NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford firefighters had a busy Monday night, responding to two structure fires in the city just hours apart, NBFD reported.

The first was at 7:12 p.m., according to an NBFD post on Facebook, at 22 County St. in the city's South End. The location is home to car dealer Budget Automotive.

"Fire crews quickly extinguished a fire involving a couch," the post reads.

NBFD reported no injuries, and wrote that the cause would be investigated by the NBFD Fire Investigation Unit.

The second fire, just over four hours later at 11:15 p.m., happened at 31 Margin St. , also in the city's South End.

"Engine 6 arrived and reported a large volume of fire in the rear of this two-story, single family wood-frame residence," NBFD posted.

"A neighbor alerted the residents to the fire and they were able to evacuate safely," NBFD posted. "A neighbor’s shed sustained slight heat damage and there was no extension inside the home."

NBFD reported no injuries for that fire, which is also under investigation by the local Fire Investigation Unit, according to the post.
