A year ago, the Freetown-Lakeville 8U All-Star baseball team made history by becoming the first in its division to reach the Cal Ripken World Series. The Free-Lake All-Stars took their first step in achieving it again as they went 6-0 in the 9U Cal Ripken State Tournament at Pope Park in Acushnet and beat Easton, 14-4, in the state title game.

A transformation is underway at the former Capitol Theater that will provide commercial space and six affordable rental units to the Acushnet Avenue neighborhood. The estimated $11 million Capitol Theater revitalization project is in an area designated by MassDevelopment as a Transformative Development District.
