Established in 2011, the name comes from a captain Nathaniel Bonney, who used to have a boat in the New Bedford harbor. He owned the property in the 1800s and was buried in the Rochester cemetery.

"So it comes from a real person and we like to incorporate that nautical theme throughout the shop," Romero added, who worked as an employee until taking over the business in 2020.

Did you know this about ice cream?

The origin of ice cream is unclear . Alexander the Great is often credited with enjoying a frozen dessert made from snow and honey, and there are also references to frozen desserts in ancient Chinese, Persian, and Greek cultures.

In the 13th century, Marco Polo brought back a recipe for a frozen dessert resembling sherbet from his travels in China. It was made with milk, rice, and various flavorings and was similar to modern-day sorbet.

In the early 1900s, ice cream became more industrialized, with the creation of ice cream factories and the introduction of new technologies like pasteurization and homogenization. This led to a wider variety of flavors and a more affordable price for ice cream.

During the 20th century, ice cream became even more popular, with the creation of iconic brands such as Baskin-Robbins and Häagen-Dazs. It is now enjoyed all over the world and is available in countless flavors and forms, from traditional scoops to ice cream bars and sandwiches.

The largest ice cream sundae was one weighing 54,917 lb made by Palm Dairies Ltd in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on July 1988. It continues to hold the world record.
