Oneonta (NY) Fire Department Hopes to Boost Staffing
The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y. Jul. 15—The city of Oneonta Fire Department wants make staffing additions, including a new firefighter and a new fire captain. Fire Chief Brian Knapp said Monday, July 15 that the department has a spot reserved at the Utica Fire Academy for a new firefighter. The department also wants to promote a temporary captain who can continue to fill in for an anticipated vacancy.

Update 6:14pm: Governor Hochul says she has deployed the NYS Police and other agencies to help in Oneida County. As the heat index rose and the potential for storms grew, a tornado has been confirmed in Rome, NY - just north of Utica. Photos from the scene show a church with its roof and steeple torn off, numerous downed trees and power lines, overturned vehicles - even a B-52 bomber on display at the Air Force base was moved by the strong winds.
Binghamton Deli Ordered Closed by City Just After Opening
A business that set up shop at the former site of a Binghamton Subway restaurant was open for a short time before it was directed by a code enforcement officer to close. A Johnson City man had worked for months to renovate the building at Conklin and Tompkins streets to get the place ready.
