NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — A New Bern man has been arrested and charged in an armed robbery that happened on Sunday.

Marvin Ramone Berry Jr., 22, of New Bern, was arrested Sunday night by New Bern police and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was booked into the Craven County Jail on a $150,000 secured bond. He had a first court appearance on Monday.

Police responded to the 700 block of Pollock Street for a reported armed robbery. A citizen said they had just been robbed at gunpoint. The victim provided a description and direction of travel of the suspect. Officers began searching for the suspect and located Berry, who matched the description, on Bloomfield Street. The stolen property and a gun were also recovered.

Though there is no ongoing threat to the community, the New Bern Police Department encourages citizens walking at night to practice the buddy system and to avoid walking alone if possible. You can report any crime to the New Bern Police Department TIPS line at (252) 636-5034 or the Craven County Crime Stoppers line at (252)633-5141.
