NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — The Craven County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a body floating in the Scott’s Creek area of James City Monday.

People on jet skis reported the body and Craven County deputies then saw the body floating a short distance from a Scott’s Creek railroad but it could not be recovered from land. The Craven County Emergency Management Services (EMS) were contacted for assistance.

Personnel from EMS sent out a remotely-operated submersible vehicle to recover the body which appears to be that of a white male. Positive identification and cause of death will be determined by autopsy.

This is not an active death investigation and anyone with information regarding this death is asked to contact the Craven County Sheriff’s Office at 252-636-6620.
