NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — The New Bern Police Department and Fire-Rescue are putting a twist on their Annual Battle of the Badges competition on Thursday.

This year, they’re calling it the United Badges Blood Drive. Last year, the American Red Cross says that the drive collected over 250 units of blood and are hoping for an even better turnout this year. The Red Cross also says this year they hope to educate New Bern on the importance of having a diverse blood supply and how it can impact people with diseases such as Sickle Cell.

“I can’t wait for tomorrow to see us surpass what we did last year, but we’re not going to surpass that unless everyone who plans to come comes and everyone who’s on the fence, just show up,” said Patrick Gallagher, New Bern Police Chief.

The blood drive will be at Knights of Columbus from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and walk-ins are available. Information on making an appointment will be available on our website.
