The Scarlet Knights made huge strides in 2023 under Greg Schiano, going 8-5 that included a Pinstripe Bowl win over Miami, the first bowl win for Rutgers in nine years. The two keys to success last season were RB Kyle Monangai and a strong defense, both return this season. Monangai was the Big Ten’s leading rusher, which is saying something in a run-happy league. After flirting with turning pro, the 5th year senior scored seven TDs and ran for 1,099 yards on 5.1 yards per carry last year.

Can Rutgers improve on last year’s 8-5 record?

On Paper, the Scarlet Knights have (on paper) the easiest schedule in the Big Ten. A Friday night home game vs. Washington could be a difference maker between improvement or regression.

Is transfer QB Athan Kaliakmanis an upgrade from last season?

Last year, QB Gavin Wimsatt was serviceable, but far from a strength. Wimsatt has transferred to Kentucky. In comes Minnesota transfer, who threw 14 TDs last year.

Can Rutgers top 50 defense improve this year?

With six senior starters returning, the Scarlet Knights will have more experience on defense. The biggest loss is at DB, where Rutgers will have to find a replacement for 2nd round pick Max Melton. Melton was drafted in the 2nd round by the Cardinals.
