Oklahoma executes man convicted of killing 7-year-old former stepdaughter
McALESTER, Okla. (KFOR) – The state of Oklahoma on Thursday executed a man convicted of kidnapping, raping and killing a 7-year-old girl in 1984. Richard Rojem, 66, received a three-drug lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester and was declared dead at 10:16 a.m., prison officials said.

Now a graduate student at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, the Ignacio High alumnus was the only Bulldog to qualify for the 2024 College National Finals Rodeo held June 9-15 in Casper, Wyo. The bulls he drew, however, had little desire to be ridden and Sanchez – now a two-time CNFR qualifier at SWOSU – returned to base in Weatherford, Okla., unlucky in his three tries, leaving him in a multi-way tie for 15th place prior to the championship go-round.

Hometown Legends is a bluegrass music event that will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 28 at the Stanley Building in Hobart. Proceeds from the event will go toward buying clothes for children in need. The goal is to raise $3,000 so that $150 can be spent on 20 children.
