    Worcester Opens Cooling Centers Amid High Heat Forecast

    WORCESTER, Mass. – In response to the predicted high heat index from Monday through Wednesday, the City of Worcester has announced the activation of several cooling centers to provide residents with relief from the sweltering temperatures.

    The cooling centers will be open on the following schedule, with water available at each location:

    Monday, July 15:

    • Worcester Public Library (Main Branch) – 3 Salem Square, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Public Library (Frances Perkins Branch) – 470 West Boylston St., from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Senior Center – 128 Providence St., from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    Tuesday, July 16:

    • Worcester Public Library (Main Branch) – 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Public Library (Frances Perkins Branch) – 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Senior Center – 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    Wednesday, July 17:

    • Worcester Public Library (Main Branch) – 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Public Library (Frances Perkins Branch) – 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Senior Center – 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    Residents seeking information on bus routes, ADA transportation, and travel training can contact the WRTA at 508-791-9782.

    City officials are urging all residents to take precautions during the heatwave by limiting strenuous activities, staying hydrated, and checking on neighbors, particularly those who are elderly or have health issues. The high temperatures and humidity can severely impact the body’s ability to cool itself, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
