ROCHESTER, N.H. – Lakes Region Emergency Alerts and Rochester, NH Scanner Alerts, local Facebook pages dedicated to raising community awareness of emergency situations, are calling upon the community to show solidarity by wearing blue on Saturday, July 20. This initiative is in honor of the lives tragically lost in recent traffic accidents across New Hampshire, from the events listed in the links below.

The color blue, prominently featured on the state flag, symbolizes unity and remembrance. By wearing blue, residents not only pay tribute to the victims but also support the grieving families and remind each other of the critical importance of road safety.

"This gesture is a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to foster safer roads and prevent further tragedies," stated the community alert. Participants are encouraged to share the initiative widely to maximize community involvement and impact.

Furthermore, the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety (NHOHS) has released alarming statistics highlighting the urgent need for safer driving practices. Over a span of four days, from July 12 to July 15, the state witnessed nine fatal crashes that claimed ten lives, from a press release.

Assistant Commissioner Eddie Edwards of the New Hampshire Department of Safety emphasized, "The recent spike in road fatalities is alarming and mostly preventable. We urge drivers to adhere to speed limits, remain attentive, and avoid impaired driving."

The NHOHS is intensifying enforcement patrols statewide, in collaboration with local law enforcement, to deter and detect dangerous driving behaviors. Colonel Mark B. Hall of the New Hampshire State Police also stressed the collective effort required to ensure road safety, stating, "We are committed to law enforcement, but community cooperation is crucial."

As the community prepares to wear blue in solidarity, the message is clear: road safety is a shared responsibility, and every individual's commitment to driving safely can save lives. The organizers hope this day of remembrance will also serve as a commitment to change, reducing the number of future traffic-related fatalities.
