HARTS LOCATION, NH – A new natural landmark has captured the attention of locals and visitors alike in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, after a recent post by Rochester NH Scanner Alerts on Facebook. Often referred to for its picturesque landscapes and historical sites, this area has added another intriguing sight—a skull-like rock formation high above the Willey House on Route 302.

For years, travelers have visited the Willey House to enjoy the stunning views and delve into the local lore. It was during one of these visits that a curious observer spotted what appeared to be a skull peering down from the mountains. This ominous figure, unnoticed by many until recently, has sparked a flurry of social media posts and discussions.

The formation, visible from the deck of the nearby restroom area, has led some to question whether it should be given a name, much like the famed Old Man of the Mountain once was before its collapse in 2003. While it’s unclear how long the skull has been part of the mountain's façade, it has certainly been there for some time, shaped by natural erosion processes rather than recent geological activity.

The sudden popularity of this skull formation highlights how nature continually shapes and reshapes the environment, often leading to new discoveries in well-trodden places. As the community and visitors continue to ponder a suitable name for this new geological icon, it serves as a reminder of the ever-changing and mysterious beauty of the White Mountains.

For those intrigued by this new discovery, the skull can be best viewed from the Willey House site, offering yet another reason to visit this historic location nestled within the scenic heart of New Hampshire. Whether this formation will become as iconic as the Old Man of the Mountain remains to be seen, but it certainly adds an intriguing element to the already rich tapestry of local legends and landmarks.

I took these photos during a recent visit to the site, a location I visit often but have never noticed it before.
