LAWRENCE, MA – The City of Lawrence invites the community to the Lawrence Ciclovía on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM in downtown Lawrence. This event, spearheaded by Mayor Brian A. DePeña and the Lawrence Recreation Department, will transform Essex Street into a car-free zone, promoting physical activity and community engagement.

During the event, Essex Street will be closed to traffic between Union and Lawrence Streets, allowing residents to enjoy activities such as biking, walking, skating, and Zumba. Pedestrian and bike safety information will be provided, and participants will have the opportunity to engage in various forms of physical activity while learning more about active streets initiatives.

The Ciclovía aims to promote health and wellness in the community while supporting local businesses along Essex Street. Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the event to shop and dine at local establishments, helping to bolster the city’s small business community.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to come together, be active, and enjoy everything our city has to offer,” said Mayor Brian A. DePeña. “We are proud to host this event and look forward to seeing everyone participate in the fun and excitement.”

There will be additional attractions for the whole family, including fun bike rides, safety demonstrations, and opportunities to sample food from local vendors. The event is free and open to the public, making it an inclusive day for all ages to participate.

The Lawrence Ciclovía is made possible through the support of organizations such as Wellpoint, The Center: Lawrence, Massachusetts Seniors, Families, Community, Mass in Motion Lawrence, and MHT – Movement Health Transformation.

Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to enjoy an active, fun-filled day in downtown Lawrence. For more information, visit the City of Lawrence’s website or contact the Recreation Department.
