Contractor to Work Overnight on Sewer Pipe Rehabilitation in Dover

    2024-09-14

DOVER, NH - Green Mountain Pipeline Services, LLC, a city contractor, will begin overnight work to rehabilitate a section of the city’s sanitary sewer system on Central Avenue and Ash Street. The project involves installing liners in the sewer main to extend the pipes’ life and reduce groundwater inflow and infiltration. The rehabilitation will temporarily seal off individual sewer connections for one night, lasting between six and eight hours.

The project includes cleaning, video inspection, and relining approximately 2,700 linear feet of sewer lines, covering Central Avenue from Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s emergency room entrance to Ash Street and Ash Street from Central Avenue to Mount Vernon Street. The work is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Residents and businesses will be notified twice before their sewer connection is sealed off: one week prior and 24 hours before the operation. The notices will remind users to limit water usage during the overnight work. This includes avoiding the use of washing machines or dishwashers. If you need to shower, you are advised to leave the water in the tub until your service is restored. Sump pumps connected to the sewer system must be disconnected or discharged elsewhere to prevent possible damage to the liners or sewer backups.

Failure to follow these guidelines could result in sewer discharges backing up onto the property. After the work is completed, the contractor will notify residents and businesses when their sewer service is restored.

During the rehabilitation process, users may notice an odor, particularly in homes or buildings with dry or missing plumbing traps. This issue can be minimized by pouring several gallons of water down sinks, showers, and toilets to refill the traps.
