HAMPSTEAD, NH – The Hampstead Fire Department has been awarded a $1.377 million Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s office notified the department of the grant, which was later authorized for acceptance by Hampstead’s Select Board.

The SAFER grant will be utilized to address the department’s staffing needs, enhancing its ability to provide adequate fire and emergency response services to the community. In addition to supporting current staffing levels, the grant will also facilitate the implementation of Hampstead's new ambulance service, which is set to begin operation on March 1, 2025.

“This grant is a significant resource for the Town of Hampstead,” a representative from the department said. “It allows the department to provide a necessary, professional, and effective service while reducing the overall cost to the community.”

The grant aims to help the department maintain its fire and rescue resources while preparing to launch the new ambulance service. The SAFER program’s goal is to ensure communities have the necessary resources to handle emergency services without placing excessive financial strain on local taxpayers.

The Hampstead Fire Department continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving public safety and emergency response, and the SAFER grant will provide valuable support in these efforts.
