IMPACT: Heat and humidity ramp up, few storms possible
High pressure has been dominating to start off the week. We've seen plenty of sunshine, but temps and dew points have been on the rise. That's the case even more so today. Highs surge back into the middle and upper 90s along with a steamy feel. This combo makes for feels like temps in the lower to mid 100s this afternoon. That's why the Storm Team has made it an IMPACT DAY. Heat Advisories are in effect through this evening so be sure to remember your heat safety precautions. The heat and humidity are streaming in ahead of storm system to our west and another one to our north. Between the two, we eventually see our storm chances climbing. A couple storms are possible this afternoon, but the warmth aloft looks to inhibit development. As the front moves in tonight, the lift needed should help generate a few storms with a couple possibly becoming strong to severe. Gusty wind is the main concern along with heavy rain. Some small hail is possible but it's not as big of a concern. As this cold front slides SE, cooler air builds in for our Thursday. Afternoon readings dip to around 80° under mostly cloudy conditions. As the area of low pressure situated to our west works eastbound, a few more showers and storms are possible. Another storm system moves our way Friday into Saturday bringing more widespread showers and thunderstorms. The cold front looks to clear the region overnight Saturday with Sunday looking much better. The upper-level part of this storm will still be overhead so we can't rule out a storm or two on Sunday. Labor Day becomes much drier and pleasant too as high pressure at the surface takes over. It'll be gorgeous if you have any bbq's or family gatherings planned. Temps dip back into the 70s along with a more refreshing feel in the air. The cooler than normal trend holds through the first half of next week, with highs holding in the 70s. High pressure dominates much of the week too leading to plenty of sunshine but a disturbance sliding by to our south could bring a stray shower or storm. It's something we'll continue to monitor but the big headline is the cooler than average feels.
