Joey Chestnut is a Hall of Fame eater.

Nicknamed "Jaws," the 40-year-old from California is a 16-time champion of the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest and holds the record in the event, 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.

Beating Chestnut in an eating contest is a monumental task. But as history dictates, the feat is improbable but not impossible.

There is one eater since 2006 who has claimed victory over Chestnut on Coney Island — Matt Stonie. The 32-year-old comes from the Bay Area, the same region that produced Chestnut. He may be most known for his YouTube channel, which has millions of followers, but his most incredible accomplishment came back in 2015.

Here is more to know about Stonie and the last time Chestnut lost at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Content.

    Who is Matt Stonie?

Stonie is a competitive eater and YouTuber.

A native of San Jose, "Megatoad" first won an eating competition in 2010, when he placed first in a lobster roll eating contest in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.

Stonie debuted at a Major League Eating event in 2011, when he competed in the Stockton Deep Fried Asparagus Championship in Stockton, California. At the time of the event, he was the youngest member of the Major League Eating organization at 18 years old.

Stonie rose to fame thanks to his YouTube channel, where he posted videos of competing in a variety of eating competitions.

    Where is Matt Stonie now?

Stonie is still found doing what he does best — eating.

He remains active on YouTube, where he has amassed over 16.4 million subscribers and 3.62 billion video views on his YouTube channel. His most viewed video consists of him eating 15 packs of Korean fire noodles, and it has been viewed over 147 million times.

In August 2022, Stonie partnered with TGI Friday's to create Stonie Bowls , a fast casual food franchise that focuses largely on rice and poke bowls of large portions.

Last time Joey Chestnut lost Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

Stonie's biggest claim to fame is taking down the biggest dog (pun intended) at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.

His distinction as the only person to beat Chestnut at the competition since 2006 will remain intact this year, as Chestnut will not compete at the Coney Island event due to a sponsorship dispute.

Chestnut signed a sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods. Major League Eating, which organizes the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, bars competitors from endorsing rival products, which effectively banned Chestnut from the Fourth of July event.

In 2015, though, Chestnut entered as the eight-time defending champion at the annual event. His first win in 2007 sparked a run of eight consecutive victories, and it did not appear as though anyone would be able to top Chestnut's dominance — until Stonie.

The YouTuber put together one of his best competitive eating  performances to date. Stonie managed to wolf down 62 hot dogs, narrowly beating Chestnut, who ate 60.

Chestnut reclaimed his title the next year and won every competition from 2016 through 2023. Dating back to 2001, Stonie remains the only competitive eater to win the event not named Chestnut or Takeru Kobayashi.
