For over six decades, Willie Nelson watched as his stardom expanded to new heights that he himself thought impossible. Wanting nothing more than to share his love for music, the singer seemed to become the genre he loved so much. And that long history continues to unfold as the 91-year-old continues to perform on stage. Always willing to take the stage to entertain his countless fans, Nelson shocked the music industry in June when he canceled a string of shows due to an ongoing health concern. Although the singer didn’t reveal what was wrong, he promised to return. And there seemed no better time for Nelson to return than on July 4th.

Wanting to celebrate the 4th of July in style, many flocked to the Outlaw Music Festival to see a lineup of classic singers like Bob Dylan. With fans filling the space in New Jersey, many wondered if Nelson would take the stage or would he cancel another set. While wondering what would happen, Nelson kept his word and took his place on the stage once again. Not just making an appearance, the country legend played a set that included 19 songs and even “The Border” from his newest album. Fans cheered with excitement as Nelson appeared his usual self.

Willie Nelson Talks The Importance Of A Positive Attitude

Sitting down with Forbes to discuss his history in music, Nelson shared his thoughts on his life in the spotlight. “Well, honestly, I think about that a lot. A nightly thing, I just appreciate everything. I would say turning 90 is a surprise. It seems to surprise a lot of people if I made 90.”

When asked about how he continues to perform at 91, Nelson explained the power of having the right outlook on life. “I think it’s a positive attitude. Imagine what you want and just get out of the way.” And given his ongoing love for marijuana, he insisted, “I think if you got one, let’s burn it.”

Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival continues to tour the country with a visit to New York on Saturday. The Festival will run until the end of September when Nelson takes the stage in New Hampshire.
