Underwood Wins Class 2A State Baseball Title

(Carroll) Underwood captures the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament title with a Friday 5-1 win over New Hampton.

Jack Vanfossen picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles. The senior pitched 5.2 innings and allowed no runs on no hits, with four strikeouts and two walks. Gus Bashore came in for the save.

The Eagles scored one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth while holding New Hampton to one run in the top of the seventh inning.

Underwood scored five runs on nine hits and committed one error. New Hampton scored one run on two hits and made no errors.

Vanfossen, Bashore, and Easton Robertson led the Eagles with two hits each.

Underwood finishes the season with a 29-2 record. New Hampton, 29-7.
