After months of debate, New Hanover school board approves budget. Here are the highlights.
After months of discussions because of a looming $20 million shortfall, the New Hanover Board of Education has approved the district's budget for the upcoming year. Half of the shortfall was due to COVID-19 relief money running out this year, but other issues have been what board members and staff have said are insufficient allotments from the state, lower student enrollment, and inflation.
NHC Board of Elections hosts voter ID events this month
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A series of events to provide area residents with voter information ahead of the 2024 election takes place in July. New Hanover County Board of Elections staff will host the events so people better understand their voting options, can learn more about registration and how to obtain an ID, now required per law. Necessary paperwork to submit for an ID will be made available during the sessions and folks will receive the ID onsite that day.

Leland man’s damaged smartphone calls 911 more than 2000 times
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man’s water damaged phone began calling 911 continuously without him knowing. It all began last Saturday morning with a knock. “Sheriff’s deputy came to the door and it was about 4 o’clock in the morning,” Leland resident Cam Morgan said.
