Millions awarded to help fund replacement of Cape Fear Memorial Bridge
Millions in grant dollars from the U.S. Department of Transportation will help fund the replacement of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. According to Sen. Thom Tillis and Gov. Roy Cooper, the $242 million Bridge Investment Program-Large Bridge Project discretionary grant is funded by President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The award will cover about half the cost of the replacement, which is estimated to cost around $485 million.
A national garden conference sparks ideas for New Hanover Arboretum staff
I serve as the arboretum grounds maintenance supervisor and attended the American Public Gardens Association annual conference in Boston. It was another great conference filled with professionals from all areas of public garden administration, curation, and maintenance. ILM, NCDOT put forth $3.4M to widen 23rd Street
WILMINGTON — The Wilmington International Airport (ILM) now has $3.4 million for an expansion project to the road that serves as its primary entryway. At the July 10 New Hanover County Airport Authority meeting, board members unanimously approved a $1-million contribution to the expansion of 23rd Street, the direct route to enter ILM’s campus. The widening project would only be for a portion of 23rd Street, from Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway to Castle Hayne Road.
Composting Education Site Open to the Public at New Hanover County, NC Recycling and Solid Waste
To help reduce the amount of material being sent to the landfill, New Hanover County Recycling and Solid Waste has opened an outdoor facility where the public can learn how to compost at home. Located at Recycling and Solid Waste offices (3002 US Hwy 421 N, Wilmington), this newly installed educational site is designed to show best practices when using organic waste to create material that can be used as nourishment for gardens and other outdoor plants.
