Doylestown Man Has New Goal for Burpee Park: Repave the Basketball Court
DOYLESTOWN, PA—The man who helped revitalize the pavilion at Doylestown’s Burpee Park two years ago is working on a new project—to repave the basketball court that is widely used—and he’s looking for help from the community. Brian Guerriero, a borough resident who lives within a stone’s throw of Burpee Park, was honored by borough officials last year for his work on washing and painting the pavilion and then leading the effort to install plantings around the building. Big East Basketball Hot Seat
This offseason we are continuing to evaluate the job stability of coaches in different conferences. This week, it is time to look at the Big East. The schools in this conference are all basketball-first schools, which can often lead to higher expectations and shorter leashes for coaches. While many coaches are not currently on the hot seat, we could see a few getting warm by the end of the season.
Dr. Barbara Friedes, 30, Killed In Philly Crash
Barbara Ann Friedes, 30, was struck from behind by a 2018 Volkswagen on the 1800 block of Spruce Street around 7 p.m., Philadelphia police wrote in a release. The Volkswagen then hit three parked cars before coming to a rest, police continued. Friedes was taken to Jefferson University Hospital and pronounced dead, while the driver of the Volkswagen was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, officials said.

Greetings, Dear Citizens! On Sunday, July 14th, The Pretenders played the Fillmore here in Philadelphia. It was a day after a very special anniversary for them in this town. That, of course, was Lve Aid at JFK Stadium in South Philly on July 13th of 1985. They also did a surprise warm-up gig at the old Chestnut Cabaret at 38th and Chestnut Streets that week in ’85 to prepare for Live Aid. They hadn’t performed together in several months, and there was no one playing there that night. They book the room at the last minute and didn’t announce the show, but the word got out and there was a line around the block!

Car collided with tree, killing East Allen Township man, coroner says
A 51-year old Northampton County man died of multiple blunt force injuries following a car crash Wednesday night, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said. Johny Roustic, of East Allen Township, was the driver of a vehicle that crashed into a tree in the area of Pembroke Road and East Washington Avenue in Bethlehem, the coroner said. The Radian Group, a mortgage insurance company, is laying off approximately 70 people in Chester County. Radian Group Inc. filed a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act) notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry informing that state it is laying off the employees at 550 East Swedesford Road in Tredyffrin Township near Wayne.
