NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The Fourth of July is Thursday and there will be some notable changes to local transportation for the holiday.
Metro North will run on a Sunday schedule this Thursday. That means off-peak fares will be in effect all day and trains will run much less frequently.
New Haven officials, residents urge caution with explosives during holiday From New Haven to Grand Central for example, we’re talking one train per hour versus multiple per hour.
Some people may be heading into New York City for the Macy’s fireworks which start at 8 p.m.
And for that reason, one extra New Haven line train will be added Thursday as well. It will be an express train, so it won’t stop at all stations.
It will leave Grand Central Station just after 11 p.m. to accommodate people who plan to go, making sure they have a way home.

AAA projects 70.9 million travelers will head 50 miles or more from home over the Independence Day holiday travel period.
This year’s projected number of travelers for that time period is a 5% increase compared to 2023 and an 8% increase over 2019.
Make sure you leave yourself some extra time to get to where you are going this weekend.
