NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Haven is getting $1.6 million from the federal government and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“It provides development opportunities for young people, resources for healthy living and social responsibility,” Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) said.

Over the next year, the Boys & Girls Club will undergo various renovations. Making the center more environmentally friendly is just one of the many improvements.

“The first project will most likely be the roof,” Jeff Pytlak, the interim executive director, said.
“That’s the most needed, which will probably roll into the gym. We’ll probably have to do it in sections because we want to remain open during the whole process.”

DeLauro said the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Haven has been around for more than 150 years, transforming the lives of children one program at a time.

“Through our summer camps, after-school programs, teens programs, after-school programs, we help young people,” Eric Scaranuzzo, board president of Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Haven, said.
