Man Found Dead In New Haven Stream Was Strangled, Police Say

The New Haven man, identified as Miguel Rivera, age 62, was found in a stream around 7:10 a.m. on Friday, July 19, in a stream in the area of Hemingway Street.

According to Officer Christian Bruckhart of the New Haven Police, the medical examiner conducted a preliminary examination of Rivera on scene, and no signs of trauma were located at the time. They took custody of the body and performed an autopsy.

Upon completion of the examination, the OCME ruled the manner of death to be a homicide by strangulation, Bruckhart said.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have information valuable to investigators call detectives at 203-946-6304 or through the department's anonymous tip line at 203-866-888-TIPS (8477).
