NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police arrested three people in connection to the December 2022 shooting death of a 16-year-old boy.

Joshua Vazquez was riding his bike on Valley Street when he was shot and killed by someone in an SUV.

Since his death, police arrested 17-year-old Angelo Gibson, 46-year-old Latasha Brown and 59-year-old Ronald Miller. Investigators said they believe Gibson killed Vazquez while Gibson’s mother, Brown, was driving the car. Miller was an alleged conspirator in the shooting, police said.

Gibson was arrested on July 17 and charged with murder, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a pistol/revolver, weapon in a motor vehicle, five counts of risk of injury to a minor and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Brown faces charges of hindering prosecution and criminal liability for acts of another/murder. Miller was charged with tampering with evidence.

During Thursday’s press conference, police and city leaders issued an urgent warning to the community to put down the guns and stop the violence.

In the last 12 days, 16 non-fatal shootings have taken place in New Haven, putting stress on the department and resources as they work to combat the ongoing violence.
