The city’s premier outdoor concert venue won’t be quiet all summer long after all — now that four August shows have been moved from a Middlefield ski resort to the Westville Music Bowl.

Westville Music Bowl made that surprise announcement on Facebook, Instagram, and its website on July 31 that there are now “four more opportunities to #PackTheBowl this summer” at the former tennis stadium-turned-music venue at 45 Yale Ave.

The newly announced Westville shows, all of which have tickets available for sale, include:

    • The Grateful Dead cover band Dark Star Orchestra on Aug. 16.

    • The folk-punk band Violent Femmes on Aug. 18.

    • The rock bands Blues Traveler and Big Head Todd and The Monsters on Aug. 22.

    • And the alt rock bands the Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket on Aug. 23.

All four of those concerts had been planned for the Middlefield ski resort Powder Ridge Mountain Park this summer. Those shows will all now be taking place in Westville instead.

The move from Powder Ridge to the Westville Music Bowl was “the best thing for the bands and the fans,” said promoter Keith Mahler, whose company is a third-party facility manager for the Westville Music Bowl and who was involved in promoting the Powder Ridge shows. He declined to go into further detail on why exactly this move took place.

He did say that all of the tickets purchased for the Powder Ridge shows will be valid at the Westville Music Bowl. He also said there are more tickets available for those interested in seeing these bands perform in Westville this month.

The July 31 announcement came several weeks after the Independent reported that the Westville Music Bowl, which first opened in 2022, had zero shows booked for July and August this summer, with its most recent concert having taken place at the end of June and its next scheduled for late September.
