Hospital for Special Surgery names medical leadership in Florida
New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery appointed new medical director roles in Florida. Sheeraz Qureshi, MD, is chief medical officer of HSS Florida and succeeds Douglas Padgett, MD, according to a July 22 news release. He has been co-chief of HSS Spine and holds the Patty and Jay Baker Chair in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. In the expanded role, he will oversee clinical operations and quality for HSS' Florida presence and work with HSS Florida CEO Tara McCoy to grow access to care.

NY weather update: Flood advisory expected to expire at 12:15 a.m.
The advisory was for Nassau and Suffolk counties. "The Flood Advisory will expire at 12:15 a.m. early this morning for a portion of southeast New York, including the following areas, Nassau and Suffolk. The heavy rain has ended. Urban and small stream flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat. Please continue to heed remaining road closures," states the National Weather Service.

On Wednesday, July 17 Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) attended the grand re-opening of the newly renovated Dunkin’ on Jackson Avenue in Syosset. New York State has the notorious distinction of being the home of the deadliest prison riot in U.S. history. The 53rd anniversary of the tragedy is coming up in about a month and a half. The Attica Prison Riot, also known as the Attica Prison Rebellion, began on September 9, and ended on September 13, 1971, at the Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, New York. Attica is located at 639 Exchange Street in Wyoming County.

17 cameras are busting speeders on several roads in the Empire State this week. One of them is back in Central New York.
