Devils Defence Prospect Says He is Ready for His Pro Debut

After two seasons at Michigan, Seamus Casey is ready for the pros. The 20-year-old defenseman knows what he needs to do to make it in the New Jersey Devils' organization.

"I just want to do my best to get a chance to make the team and, if not, wherever they think is best for me, I'm ready."

During New Jersey's development camp in July, Casey spoke with the media and showed his maturity level.

"It's hard to make an NHL team and the Devils are doing a great job of acquiring guys, drafting well and signing guys, and it's exciting to be a part of it all,"

In 40 games in his second season at the University of Michigan, Casey had seven goals and 38 assists for 45 points.

From September 15–19, Casey will represent the Devils at the Buffalo Rookie Challenge. After which, he will attend the Devils' training camp and attempt to crack the roster. If he fails, he will report to Utica Comets in the AHL.

Utica's head coach Kevin Dineen had this say about the Devils' 2022 second-round pick.

"Making the leap is not easy; I mean, he's in one of the best schools in the nation. It's enjoyable, they're successful on the ice and there's so many good things that go along with his situation at school, but at the end of it, you've got to make hard decisions to move on, and he made that decision."

Only time will tell if Casey does make the NHL lineup. He is competing with a ton of talent on the backend. If he doesn't make the Devils, then he will report to Utica and give it his full effort until he gets the call to the show.
