The New Jersey Devils' rival goalie Igor Shesterkin has turned down a massive deal from the New York Rangers, as per Kevin Weekes.

As per the report by ESPN’s Weekes, the Rangers offered Shesterkin a deal that would have made him the highest paid goalie in NHL history; however, he turned it down.

The reported deal was an eight-year, $88 million, which works out to $11 million per season. This would have paid him $3 million more than both Jeremy Swayman ($8.25 million) and Connor Hellebuyck ($8.5 million).

This development could be huge for the Devils as well as the other teams in the Metro Division if the Rangers and Shesterkin can't get a deal done before July 1, 2025.

Unlike the Boston Bruins and Swayman, Shesterkin isn't an RFA, meaning as soon as the clock strikes 12 a.m. on July 1, he can test the open market and sign elsewhere.

The other question the Rangers should ask themselves as well as their star goalie is, what he values more, winning or money? Especially given the massive increase in his cap hit between the two contracts.
