I recently had the pleasure of dining at Red Onion, a Taiwanese restaurant that truly embraces its roots. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, complete with artwork from Taiwanese artists adorning the walls. The place is also kid-friendly, boasting intelligent toys to keep the little ones entertained.
The menu at Red Onion is varied and offers a range of Taiwanese dishes. The Taiwanese egg pancakes were a delight, and the salt and pepper chicken was a standout dish that I would definitely return for. I also tried the 3 cup chicken, Taiwanese fried chicken, fish filet in spicy sauce, and the beef rice bowl, all of which were delicious. The oyster omelette, though a bit on the plain side, was authentic and tasty.
However, not all dishes hit the mark. The eggplant in garlic sauce was unexpectedly sweet and lacked the garlic punch I was hoping for. The rice cakes were flavorful, but the shrimps were a bit of a letdown due to their size. The Taiwanese style rice noodle was a bit plain, and the pork nuggets and rice noodle soup could use more flavor.
Despite a few misses, my overall experience at Red Onion was positive. The service could use some improvement, but the ambiance and the majority of the dishes make it a place worth visiting. Just remember, like any other restaurant, not all Google reviews paint the full picture. So, go in with an open mind and enjoy the experience.
