Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at Peppercorn Station in Jersey City. The food was served incredibly fast, making me wonder if it was pre-made, but the taste was undeniably good. The dishes were spicy and flavorful, with the dry chili fried chicken and stir-fried pea shots being particular standouts. However, the whole fish and peppercorn beef were slightly overcooked, making them less tender than I would have liked.
The restaurant itself is a wonderful, airy space, and the food was well-seasoned with a satisfying heat. The station stir-fried beef was phenomenal, tender pieces of beef paired with herby cilantro and a deep heat. The beef with enoki mushrooms was a surprising soup, light and almost fruity, not hot but absolutely numbing. The green beans were delicious, though I would have preferred them a bit drier and saltier.
However, the service left something to be desired. Despite clear communication about not including cilantro in any of our dishes, it was still served in the middle of the dish. Additionally, the staff seemed to be in a rush to clear our table, attempting to take away dishes before we were done. Despite these service issues, I would still highly recommend Peppercorn Station for its flavorful food and welcoming atmosphere.
