KFC Challenges Taco Bell with Intriguing New Menu Item

There's nothing like a little sibling rivalry to bring about some cool innovation.

Take YUM! Brands, for example. They own Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut and the three have been going back and forth for some time, crossing onto one another's lanes to bring out some new foods that challenge their fast-food siblings.

For example, KFC released the Chizza- a chicken tender topped with cheese, pepperoni, and pizza sauce- to take a wing at its sister, Pizza Hut. Now, KFC wants a piece of Taco Bell's action and they're releasing a new menu item that we just have to have.

This is One Rivalry We Support

KFC is reportedly testing chicken quesadillas in select restaurants in New York, New Jersey, and Tennessee, and we can't wait to see what this is all about.

The KFC Chicken Quesadilla includes shredded chicken that is topped with the chain’s signature gravy and a three-cheese blend. It is then toasted and served with a dipping sauce or hot sauce.

This sounds absolutely incredible and we can't wait until they are released nationwide. This sounds an awful lot like the new Cantina Chicken menu at Taco Bell , though, and we think these two siblings duking it out in the kitchen may lead to more great food items for fans of both chains.

New Beverages, Too

KFC is also testing new frozen beverages in partnership with ICEE.

The test range is in 22 locations throughout Central Kentucky, including Lexington. They include Mtn Dew Sweet Lightning, blackberry lemonade, and blue raspberry flavors, of which the former two are only available at KFC.

Frozen Mtn Dew Sweet Lightning blends the sweet peach and honey flavors, while frozen blackberry lemonade combines citrusy lemon with tangy blackberries.

According to content creator @snackolator, KFC has also new beverages out right now, including a Tropical Passionfruit Lemonade, a Tropical Passionfruit Sweet Lightning, Tropical Passionfruit Starry, and Tropical Passionfruit Sweet Tea. All are listed for $2.49.

If you're thinking the frozen drinks sound familiar, you're right! Taco Bell has also released new beverages, including a Limonada Freeze.

KFC is Taking on Wendy's

KFC isn't keeping its fight in-house, though. On Monday, June 10, both KFC and Wendy's released all-new saucy nuggets - nuggets drenched in flavorful sauces. KFC released five flavors, and Wendy's released seven.

People have been comparing them on social media and KFC has been winning in most taste tests, but not by much.
