If you thought your house was protected against burglars, then you might want to watch this video. Turns out, these criminals are starting to using technology to make breaking and entering even easier.
According to New Jersey police, home invaders have started using a new tactic to enter homes and it's not what anybody would expect. Trends like this could definitely spread across the country and it's important to be aware and ensure your home and belongings stay secure.
Watch below to see just what these burglars are using to get the job done.
New Jersey-based podcast The Garden State ( @thegardenstatepodcast on TikTok) recently posted a clip raising awareness of a rising trend in criminal activity in the state. This podcast reports on all things Jersey and this time, it got a little more serious than usual.
According to police in Florham Park, New Jersey, a town right outside of Newark, burglars have started using wifi jammers to gain easy access into victim's homes. These jammers stop homeowners from using their cellphones, making it impossible to call 911 or view live security camera footage.
"The information regarding this incident is concerning due to the advanced sophistication of criminal activity," said the Florham Park police in a Facebook post .
What Do Wifi Jammers Do?
"It’s like a cell phone blocker," said CEO of Protect Now LLC, Robert Siciliano to Fox NY 5 . "They scramble signals, they make it very difficult for the signal to actually function properly."
The jammers not only reduce cell phone usage but can disarm home security systems. This wave of "smart" technology to use for breaking and entering is cause for alarm.
This wasn't the first time wifi jammers had been reported being used in the U.S. Back in March of this year, the Los Angelos Police Department officers warned citizens of the same issue .
Officers recommend either ensuring your home has a landline or setting up your cameras and home security systems through Ethernet cables and not wifi networks.
