New data reveals which states have the highest and lowest fast-food prices.

Fast-food prices have skyrocketed, and everyone is aware of that fact, but some states have seen higher-than-normal price increases. A website called BravoDeal conducted a survey to determine which state had the least and the most expensive fast food choices, and the results may surprise you.

The website looked at four factors to compile this list- the average price of a McDonald’s Big Mac, the average price of a medium cheese pizza from Domino’s, the average price of a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, and the average price of a combo meal at Taco Bell. After doing the math on all of those numbers, it ranked all 50 states from the lowest average fast-food price to the highest.

Ranking EVERY STATE by its fast food prices from cheapest to most expensive! Watching the numbers change over time is crazy. A lot of prices seem like they’re only a few dollars apart, but across the board you can see the impact of regionality really take place. This data was originally compiled by BravoDeal and is based on the average price of the following in each state: a McDonald’s Big Mac, a Taco Bell combo meal, a Chick-fil-a chicken sandwich, and a Domino’s medium cheese pizza. Which States Have the Lowest Fast Food Prices?

The state with the lowest prices was Mississippi, where a Big Mac costs around $3.91, which is over 10% lower than the national average. Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches were also the cheapest in Mississippi.

The lowest-priced states also included Arkansas, Alabama, Nebraska, and Kentucky. A Big Mac costs $3.95, $3.99, $4.07, and $4.03 in these states, respectively.

Which States Have the Highest Fast Food Prices?

Hawaii tops the list for the most expensive fast-food prices. The average Big Mac costs $5.31 in the Aloha State and that medium pizza from Domino’s came in at $18.99.

After Hawaii, the next four most expensive states were New York, New Jersey, California, and Maryland.

Alaska came in at number six for the most expensive fast-food prices, showing costs that are 11% above the national average.

”Hawaii's position as the most expensive state comes as no surprise, given its remote island location, which drives up the costs of goods due to transportation expenses. However, what's really interesting is the variety of price ranges we see elsewhere. From wallet-friendly Mississippi to the slightly more expensive areas such as California and New York, it's eye-opening for anyone who loves a quick takeaway," Marco Farnararo, the CEO and co-founder of Bravo Savings Network, said in a statement.

Which State Loves Fast-Food the Most?

Price-tracking website Pricelisto calculated which state was the “Fast Food Capital” of the U.S., based on the number of fast-food restaurants in each state compared to the overall population. This research involved adding up the locations of 22 different franchises, including McDonald’s, Burger King, and Subway, among many others.

Based on the math, West Virginia was the Fast Food Capital, with 888 fast-food restaurants. That averages out to 49.04 restaurants for every 100,000 residents.

The four other states with the highest number of per-capita fast food choices were Kentucky, Kansas, Mississippi, and Ohio.

The states with the lowest number of per-capita fast food locations were Alaska, California, Idaho, New York, and Vermont.
