For over a decade, New Jersey has had one singular app control of all of the horse racing wagering in the state. That’s set to change after a deal between Darby Developments and NYRA Bets. Darby Developments is home to Monmouth Park in NJ. On Tuesday, it was announced that NYRA Bets will become the managing vendor of New Jersey’s parimutuel horse betting system. With this, several advanced deposit wagering (ADW) platforms will be allowed to operate in the market. FanDuel Group owns TVG, which has operated 4NJbets for more than a decade. They were the sole ADW in New Jersey. Darby Developments CEO had this to say.

This is a win for the patrons in New Jersey, allowing them to have choices for the first time as to which site they prefer to wager with,” said Dennis Drazin. “It’s another step in our ongoing effort to make the racing experience in New Jersey as fan-friendly as we possibly can.”

More horse betting apps are on their way to New Jersey

Several major ADWs have an interest in entering New Jersey’s market. That’s exactly what the Garden State wanted to see after announcing the expansion of its horse betting market. President of NYRA Bets, Tony Allevato, said he is “pleased” to usher in a new era of horse betting customers to New Jersey. Competition in the market will only benefit those wagering on horse races. To become an approved ADW, the NYRA Bets, the New York Racing Association‘s ADW platform, along with Darby Development and the New Jersey Horse Racing Commission all must say yes.

Sportsbooks in New Jersey also have horse betting capabilities in other states. For example. FanDuel already has its racing platform baked into its sportsbook. That allows them to boost their numbers of users and handle during horse racing’s busiest time of the year. Another major sportsbook, DraftKings, offers its racing product on DK Horse. That’s a separate app run by DraftKings that is dedicated to horse racing wagering.
