New animal shelter in New Kent will cost more than planned
NEW KENT — New Kent County will likely break ground on a new animal shelter in Quinton within months, but the building will cost more than anticipated. The Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 on June 25 to execute a contract with David A. Nice Builders Inc. for the shelter for a construction cost of up to $5.7 million. The board voted to take $1.8 million from capital reserves for the facility on Airport Road.

HANOVER, Va. – The Chickahominy Health District (CHD), which serves the counties of Charles City, Goochland, Hanover, and New Kent, has been recognized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) for its ability to plan for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies. CHD demonstrated these capabilities by meeting the comprehensive preparedness benchmarks required by Project Public Health Ready (PPHR), a unique partnership between NACCHO and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CHD joins a cohort of more than 550 local health departments across the country that have been distinguished for excellence in preparedness through PPHR.

The deadline for the next edition of the newspaper will be Tuesday, July 2, 12 p.m. Chronicle offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5.
