Holtec to DEP: State has no authority to ban radioactive water discharge into Cape Cod Bay
The company that owns the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, Holtec International, has filed an appeal seeking to discharge radioactive water into Cape Cod Bay. Last month, the state denied Holtec a permit to release nearly 1 million gallons of water from the nuclear reactor system at Pilgrim as part of the plant decommissioning.

Lenox — The BSO’s final weekend at Tanglewood begins with Bruce Liu performing Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 on Friday evening, led by emerging American conductor Ryan Bancroft. On the same program, the BSO will perform Edward Elgar’s “Enigma” Variations, a work that contains some of the most sublime music ever written. On Saturday, it is Beethoven, Brahms, Chausson, and Ravel, closing with the French composer’s sensually ravishing “Daphnis et Chloé,” Suite No. 2 (with chorus). On Sunday, it is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, which means the Tanglewood Festival Chorus will be present to help several thousand people experience transcendence.
Navy Band “Cruisers” and The Accents Coming to Shepard Park this Friday
Coming to Lake George’s Shepard Park Amphitheater this weekend are the Captial region-based party band The Accents and The United States Navy Band “Cruisers.” Cruisers arrive at Lake George on Thursday, August 22, performing from 7:30-9:30 pm. The Navy band also opens Friday at the Lake on August 23, from 6:00-7:10 pm, followed by the headliners, The Accents, at 7:30.

Father of Syracuse-area man who killed 2 police officers arrested, faces weapons charges
Salina, N.Y. — The father of the Salina man who earlier this year shot and killed two police officers was arrested Tuesday and faces illegal weapons charges, officials said. Joseph E. Murphy, 61, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, records show.
Queens man arrested in Granville missing child investigation
According to state police, around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, they received a report of a missing 13-year-old out of Granville. Police say an investigation led them to find Cabello Gonzalez with the child in the village of Granville.
Fitch-Hoose House Names August 'George Hoose Art Month'
