Highs will warm into the 90s across the region. Midland/Odessa are looking to reach a high temperature of 94 degrees. Skies through the day will be sunny aside from a few clouds and winds will be relatively light, aside from in the higher elevations where gusts up to 20 miles per hour will be possible later on in the day. Slight rain chances are possible for areas west of the Pecos River and into southeast New Mexico, but the majority will see dry conditions through the day.
Southern New Mexicans grapple with public safety concerns after abrupt special legislative session
New Mexico’s special legislative session to address public safety began and ended in a matter of hours. The sole bill that made it to the governor’s desk addressed funding for wildfire recovery efforts and appropriated $3 million to fund assisted outpatient treatment programs and competency diversion pilot programs. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham called the session one of the most disappointing days of her career due to the lack of action taken by the legislature.

Feds Award SFCC $500,000 for Enviro Tech Training Program
SFCC receives $500,000 for enviro training program. The US Environmental Protection Agency this week announced $1 million in environmental cleanup funds for New Mexico, with half going to Santa Fe Community College to provide free tuition for the school’s environmental technical training program. “Santa Fe Community College is deeply honored to receive the $500,000 EPA Brownfields Job Training Grant,” SFCC President Becky Rowley says in a statement. “For years, SFCC has been at the forefront of offering EPA Brownfields job training, equipping individuals with the skills necessary for meaningful careers. This essential program not only tackles environmental justice issues but also fosters economic growth by providing family-sustaining wages.” The new grant, she says, will allow the college to “significantly enhance our regional collaborations with community and tribal stakeholders across seven northern New Mexico counties.” The funding comes through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and will equip “students with essential skills for future employment and [bolster] a skilled workforce to benefit our communities,” US Sen. Ben Ray Luján, D-NM, says in a statement. The EPA awarded the other half of the so-called Brownfield grant money to Raton for environmental site assessment. “This is an important step toward a cleaner community for the residents of Raton and the economic development opportunities in their future,” US Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-NM, says in a statement.
No 'options off the table' on special session as governor prepares for town halls
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Video above: Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham will host a series of public safety town halls in Las Cruces, Albuquerque and Espanola. The first public safety town hall will be held at the Las Cruces Convention Center on Thursday, July 25, at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. With regard to another special session, a spokesperson for the Governor's office told KOAT "While the governor isn't taking any options off the table, right now she is focused on gathering input from New Mexicans about their public safety concerns.'
