As we start on the second half of the year, statistics seem to suggest that New Orleans will have made significant strides in the fight against crime by the end of the year.

The city can report substantial percentage drops in just about every category.

And while many kudos go to NOPD, both chiefs Woodfork and Kirkpatrick, and Troop NOLA, the DA's office has been doing their part too.

District Attorney Jason Williams spoke with Tommy Tucker about his office’s wins, “We have a homicide unit responsible for twenty-two trials this year resulting in one hundred thirty-six resolved homicides thus far.”

Fighting crime isn't just about arrests and investigation, but also conviction. And the new unit is pivotal in that effort, even on a district-by-district level.

“There is a homicide lawyer in each of the police districts that works alongside the NOPD on the cases specific to that area.”

District Attorney Jason Williams says this has been collaborative effort that has resulted in better and more efficient partnerships with other city departments.

“The relationship between the NOPD and the D.A.’s office has never been better in the city’s history.”
