NOPD: Suspect arrested in Canal St. shooting

The New Orleans Police Department announced Thursday that a suspect in the May 23 shooting on Canal St. in downtown is in custody in the Atlanta area.

NOPD says that with the help of the Violent Offender Warrants Squad, U.S. Marshals arrested 24-year-old Donnell Beard in DeKalb County, Georgia.

"Beard was wanted for a May 23, 2024 incident where he allegedly opened fire on a group of people in the 800 block of Canal Street, wounding three people with gunfire," said police.

Beard will be extradited to New Orleans to face three counts of attempted murder and weapons charges.
