City of New Orleans opens cooling centers as high temperatures continue across city

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — City of New Orleans leaders announced that emergency cooling centers have been opened as high temperatures continue in the city.
In a news release, city officials said the National Weather Service is predicting “feels like” temperatures of 108 degrees to 118 degrees in the New Orleans area between July 1 and July 3.
The following indoor pools will be open to residents from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.:
Treme Pool at 900 N. Villere St.
Joe Brown Pool at 5602 Read Blvd.
Gert Town Pool at 3411 Broadway St.
Sanchez Center Pool at 1616 Fats Domino Ave.
The following outdoor pools will also be open to residents from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.:
Stallings Gentilly Pool at 2700 Lapeyrouse St.
Lyons Pool at 624 Louisiana Ave.
Stallings St. Claude Pool at 4300 St. Claude Ave.
Sampson Pool at 3211 Treasure St.
Whitney Young Pool at 6500 Magazine St.
St. Bernard Pool at 1500 LaFreniere St.
Rosenwald Pool at 1120 S. Broad St.
City leaders also advised residents to take proper safety measures to prevent heat-related illnesses and emergencies. Residents were provided with the following tips:
Stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
Perform outdoor activities early in the morning or late in the evening if possible.
Wear light, loose-fitting clothes.
Stay hydrated.
Never leave children or pets in an unattended car.
