Latest Quinn Ewers NFL Draft projection could cause another Manning vs. Ewers storyline for years to come

One of the hottest topics across college football throughout has been Arch Manning choosing to remain at Texas despite the very real chance he would get to start more immediately if he were to enter the transfer portal.

Manning, despite previously being the nation's top recruit, has sat behind starter Quinn Ewers to this point as he's waited his turn.

But this may not be the end of the Manning vs. Ewers storyline that has sparked so much conversation. In his most recent mock, ESPN analyst Matt Miller sent Ewers, who is projected to be a first-round 2025 NFL Draft selection, to the New Orleans Saints at No. 10 overall.

That's the same team that Archie Manning, the grandfather of Arch Manning, suited up for.

"The 2024 season will be crucial for the future of starting quarterback Derek Carr in New Orleans and perhaps provide a window into what the team has in rookie fifth-rounder Spencer Rattler," Miller wrote.

"At this time, it doesn’t appear that either quarterback is the future here. Ewers has talent worthy of a first-overall pick heading into his third season as a starter at Texas. At 21 years old, he has to cut down on poor decisions during games, but his accuracy, mobility and arm strength are that of a future NFL starter. Ewers threw for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdown passes last season."

With this, Miller seems to imply that the Saints would be unimpressed and ready to move on from Derek Carr sooner rather than later. It also would indicate that the team sees no long-term future at a high level for Jake Haener or a newly drafted Spencer Rattler.

It also suggests that he's high on what Ewers brings to the table, despite the fact Ewers still very much needs to take things up a notch -- specifically where footwork and control of mechanics are concerned -- to back up the hype train that seems to surround him ahead of the 2024 season.

Ewers, formerly the top overall recruit for the Class of 2021, finished out the 2023 season with a 69% completion rate, passing for 3,479 yards with 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. It was a marked improvement from 2022, when he completed 58.1% of his passing attempts for 2,177 yards with 15 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
