New Orleans Saints Projected To Snag Dynamic QB of the Future

Despite training camp not even beginning yet for the 2024 season, some NFL analysts are already looking ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft. One of the teams people could be keeping an eye on is the New Orleans Saints.

New Orleans Saints fans won’t be happy to see where their team lands in the recent ESPN mock draft. They come in at No. 10, which means a losing record and missing the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season.

However, the one positive takeaway from landing that high in the order is being able to snag an elite prospect. In this mock draft, that is exactly what the New Orleans Saints do.

With the No. 10 pick in his recent mock, Matt Miller of ESPN has the New Orleans Saints selecting Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers. If it wasn’t already known, this should make it clear that 2024 is a make-or-break season for veteran Derek Carr.

“The 2024 season will be crucial for the future of starting quarterback Derek Carr in New Orleans and perhaps provide a window into what the team has in rookie fifth-rounder Spencer Rattler. At this time, it doesn’t appear that either quarterback is the future here.

Ewers has talent worthy of a first-overall pick heading into his third season as a starter at Texas. At 21 years old, he has to cut down on poor decisions during games, but his accuracy, mobility and arm strength are that of a future NFL starter. Ewers threw for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdown passes last season,” wrote Miller.

Some analysts believe that Spencer Rattler will get a chance to start games this season. A fifth-round pick out of South Carolina, he was once regarded as a potential No. 1 overall pick.

Getting him on the field and seeing what he has to offer would be a good idea for the New Orleans Saints, especially if they are out of the playoff picture. If Rattler shows some upside, the team may not look to someone such as Ewers with a first-round pick in 2025.

Alas, the intrigue of the Texas product may be too much to turn away. One of the players expected to contend for the Heisman Trophy in 2024, there is a lot to like with Ewers.

He set the Big 12 Championship game record for passing yards with 452 and tied the highest mark for touchdown passes with four. He earned MVP of the game for that performance.

Heading into Year 2 of the four-year, $150 million deal, there will be a lot of pressure on Carr to perform. If he doesn’t show capable of getting the New Orleans Saints over the hump and back into the playoffs, they could look elsewhere at the position.
