How many times have you heard someone say that is was not this hot when we were kids?

New statistics prove they are right.

The EPA finds that we are having more heat waves than ever, and they are lasting longer too.

The agency reports that New Orleans has seen the biggest increase of any city in the nation for longer heat waves.

"The trend is not good, and it doesn't look like it is going to get any better anytime soon," LSU Climatologist Barry Keim told WWL First News.

He says you have to look no further than last year's record heat to find recent evidence.

"If you look just at the year of 2023, what happened in that season was so absurd."

The EPA says heat waves now last 46 days longer than they did back in the 1960s.
